You may be one of the many people who have always dreamed of having their own business for such a long time. Now that you are about to make your dreams a reality, you feel that uncomfortable feeling of fear, doubts, happiness, and excitement rolled into one. Anxiety is tough to deal with and can become detrimental to an entrepreneur. One can quickly develop several negative symptoms such as an aggressive cycle of apprehension, nervousness, stress, fear, and a general sense of impending doom.
Reading stories about businesses that suddenly closed or may have been under the water would just instantly discourage someone. Keep in mind that starting a business is not for the faint of heart. You need to be strong all the time to succeed with what you have created. After all, you don’t start a business with a short-term goal. You start a business and work on it really hard, so it may last longer.
You have to deal with so many uncertainties that one may just see himself living inside the office all throughout the week. You may become too eager to become the next Gokongwei or the late Henry Sy. But, always remember that success does not come overnight.
You may have seen some of my interviews online with some of the successful entrepreneurs we have. Each of them has gone through an eye of a needle before attaining their goal. However, all those struggles and challenges continue to happen. I have dealt with so many entrepreneurs, and they have openly told me the stress that they have to endure every day for quite a long time. The only difference now is that they can overcome their anxiety.
How To Deal With Anxiety
If you are struggling with anxiety, you must consider seeking a fresh perspective before falling into unfavorable situations. Dealing with business means you have to take a journey full of ups and downs. My suggestion to those who may be witnessing their friend or loved one suffering from such circumstances is to provide them with support. Rather than mock them and say that it is nothing to worry about and just to leave everything as is. The person experiencing the anxiety knows how they feel. They may not have instant control over it; thus, they need to understand the challenges they are going through.
If you feel like you are being imprisoned in a cobweb of uncertainties, reach out to someone to help you assess your situation. That someone maybe your friend, a family member, or a mentor. In this way, you will be able to learn a fresh perspective on things. Regardless of which person you reach out to, it is beneficial as long as you relieve your mind of all your worries. Chances are, you will eventually realize that things aren’t as bad after all.
No matter how great they seem, entrepreneurs are just as human as we are. They are likely to commit mistakes. As an entrepreneur, you should not be ashamed to admit that you are going through your own struggles. If you find yourself struggling with anxiety, don’t become hopeless. There are ways how you can overcome these challenges, no matter how huge they may seem.
Your way of thinking. What drains us of our energy and enthusiasm is when stress and anxiety step in. It can damage our thoughts and ideas and eventually take hold of unfavorable decisions. To overcome such thoughts, you should learn how to change your behavior. And have control of your emotions by fully understanding and reorganizing how those three elements interact.
Learn to identify what triggers the anxiety and find solutions on how you can positively respond to it. You can slowly deconstruct the whole situation. Figure out which element you are dealing with at the moment and work to change the situation. There may be instances wherein you suddenly have unwanted thoughts, understand what these are and never let them take hold. On the other hand, if you are experiencing any physical reaction, such as a migraine, do not ignore them. If you must, count 1-10 and breathe deeply. If you commit yourself to taking the situation entirely, take it one step at a time. In doing so, you will realize that everything can be more manageable.
While problems and struggles may be insurmountable, remember that this will pass too. It takes a little time and a lot of understanding of how things happen. And how to get away from all of it. The entrepreneurial road is never smooth and straight. Like life, a business is a journey full of challenges that are not meant to scare you or discourage you but are ways to strengthen you on your journey towards success. Learn to separate your thoughts and feelings from yourself. You don’t have to let anxiety run your life. YOU GET TO HAVE FULL CONTROL OVER YOUR OWN LIFE.
