Have you ever felt that 24 hours in a day isn’t just enough for everything that you need to be done? And because of the lack of time, you have failed to beat the deadline which has made your superiors furious about you? Or because there are just so many things to do, you have forgotten to attend a very important event? Just like you, I have also felt the same. And I was not happy being unable to get things done on time and be where I should be on certain occasions. For sure, there are a lot of people who feel that they are overloaded with work. And having this happen each and every day can be stressful and demoralizing. We can’t stop the clock no matter how much we wish we can. What better way is to be able to come up with an idea on how to maximize our time and be happy and satisfied with our achievements each day.
Time Management Mistakes
Before we can make things right, we should be able to pinpoint where we failed in pursuing a more productive day each day. When we are able to recognize these mistakes, it will be easier for us to provide a solution.
1. Unable to set goals.
Have you thought where you would like your business to be in the six months, within one year or even in 10 years? If you have not thought about this, then it’s time for you to start setting your personal goals.
Setting your personal goals is very important because it allows you to manage your time well. In doing so, you are able to have a clear vision of your destination and can come up with ideas on how and which to start. When you know what you want, you can prioritize tasks, set a schedule for each task and also be able to gather resources that you need in order to reach your goals. Doing this, it allows you to identify which are worth spending your time more and get rid of distractions.
2. Entertaining distractions.
You need to focus on what you need to do. The internet is a powerful tool. It was created to help get things done, but unfortunately, with the popularity of the various social networking sites, we have all become slaves of the internet. There is no denying that we spend almost two hours just checking out Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. And we sometimes lose track of time viewing all those photos and reading posts of our friends, and not to forget, the tempting mobile games. Guilty? I know you are!
3. Thinking that you can handle things all at the same time.
While multi-tasking may seem to be the “in” thing among the millennials, I do think that it is an unhealthy way of dealing with your work. What I mean is that you need to focus on a certain task and give time until you are sure that you are able to get the results that you want before you can jump into another task. For stay at home moms, this could be just their lives – while the stove is cooking food for the family, the washing machine is turned on, and the mom is busy cleaning up the house. Let’s say that she gets all the things he needs to do perfectly each day, but it is rather tiring to have such a routine. And for those who are working, it may make you more unproductive because doing so many things can become stressful.
4. Failure to make a To-Do-List.
I think despite the pen and paper to be not much of use these days because of our smartphones, stills, we must make a list of what we need to do every day. This way, you can set priorities and have a better knowledge of how much time each task would take. Example, it’s a Saturday and you have errands to do. Place on your top list the simplest tasks or the nearest place where you need to be. Allow enough time for each errand thinking of how far you will be going and consider the traffic, as well.
If you are the kind of person who puts things off most of the time, then that means you are losing a lot of precious time in your life. The failure to meet deadlines because you ought to just snuggle in bed or prefer to be with friends most of the time can leave you with so many undone things. And when you push yourself to get things done in just a little time, the quality of work that you will provide is usually unsatisfactory. See how bad things can go?
6. Inability to provide time to relax.
I know how we can all get to be too busy sometimes. And with the tons of work and so many people who may be relying on us, we just tend to overdo everything to the point of losing our time for ourselves and our family. Some people think that when they keep themselves busy all the time that it would mean that they are doing their jobs effectively. But on the contrary, being so busy every day can wear you down. It is unlikely that you can think well because your body is already screaming for a rest yet your mind still wants to work more. When you push yourself to the limits, you deprive yourself of a balanced life in which the consequences are having poor health, in which certain medical conditions can become irreversible.
Being in this time, we are fortunate that we are given with so many opportunities, however, not everyone are able to grasp them. It is either they have not taken advantage of it or just do not know which ones to choose because there are so many options presented. Being intimidated with the physical aspects of things can be a reason for you to just stop. However, if you find time to scrutinize each one and list down both the positive and the negative attributes, it would make it so much easier for you, thus you won’t waste time.
Time is very valuable. Once it passes by, it can never come back. And I just feel so sorry for those who don’t seem to value the time that they have now. They do not only lose the time, but as well as the many opportunities to become better and to achieve more.
